Dr Bree Di Mattina is an art historian, writer, curator and researcher based in Brisbane/Meanjin.
Bree’s PhD thesis charted the emergence of textile and fibre art in Australia from the mid-1960s to the early 1990s. While specialising in textiles and fibre, Bree’s knowledge encompasses a broad range of Australian art, feminist art, craft and artistic practices.
Her current project, Mapping Public Textile Art, combines her interest in the fields of textile and fibre art and architecture. By mapping publicly accessible works of textile and fibre art, Bree seeks to increase awareness, visibility and viability of these works. This mapping project expands on work begun during the course of her PhD research.
Working with both artists and institutions, Bree provides curatorial, writing, research and mentoring as well as workshops and public speaking.
Bree holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the Queensland College of Art and Design/Griffith University, an Art History with Honours Degree from the University of Queensland and a Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology) from Griffith University.
